Gore signed a reserve/future contract with New Orleans back in January, but he didn't make it to OTAs. The 28-year-old spent most of last season on the Saints' practice squad, and he has not played in an NFL game since 2021, when he rushed for 256 yards and two touchdowns on 51 carries.

The Saints signed Gore to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Gore joined the Saints' practice squad during the 2022 campaign after being waived by Kansas City with an injury settlement at the end of August. He totaled 59 touches for 361 yards and two scores across 11 appearances with the Chiefs last year, but he wasn't elevated for any games while with New Orleans this year. With his new contract, he'll now have a chance to compete for a roster spot during offseason work and into next year's training camp.

The Saints re-signed Gore to the practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Gore initially signed with New Orleans' practice squad last Wednesday before being cut by the team Tuesday. While the 27-year-old running back was not elevated during the team's Week 10 loss to the Steelers, he'll land back on the team's practice squad along with fellow veteran David Johnson, who was also signed Wednesday. With No. 2 running back Mark Ingram (knee) expected to remain out at least one more week and Dwayne Washington apparently relegated to a special-teams role, Gore and Johnson could jockey for a spot on the team's game-day roster during Sunday's game against the Rams.

Gore was placed on IR shortly after Kansas City's second preseason game against the Commanders last Saturday, where he likely picked up the issue that landed him on the list. Chiefs' Derrick Gore: Won't play in preseason finale
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that Gore (thumb) won't play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Packers, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Gore rushed five times for 11 yards across 18 offensive snaps during Saturday's preseason game against the Commanders and presumably picked up the thumb injury as well. The severity of the issue remains unclear, but it could cost him a spot on the initial 53-man roster. Clyde Edwards-Helaire remains the projected starter with Jerick McKinnon and Ronald Jones as primary backups, but rookie Isiah Pacheco has also made waves during training camp. With those four healthy, Gore will have a tough time hanging on to a spot during the final roster cuts, especially if the thumb injury remains a concern.
