Bryce Young QB, BAMA

Height: 5-10, Weight: 194

He is the best pure passer in this draft, but I am worried about his size. Itā€™s a strange move to move up to take a guy this small by giving up so much to do it. But he has talent, if he holds up. Heā€™s is an outlier weā€™ve never seen. (Pete Prisco)

B-

Young was handpicked by proven quarterback developer Frank Reich, and it's easy to see why. On game film, Young has it all - excellent ball placement, leadership, a quick release, arm talent to make all the throws, but most importantly, he throws with anticipation on a relatively consistent basis. Young's football IQ will hopefully outweigh his frame (5-foot-10, 204 pounds). Reich elevated Young to the QB1 role after the team's first few OTAs, which is an excellent indicator that he is well ahead of schedule from the mental standpoint and he makes for a better late-round gamble for your QB2 or a sleeper target in Superflex or two-QB leagues than the Derek Carrs and Desmond Ridders of the world. Young is worth a back-end first-round pick but more than likely an early second-round pick in rookie-only one-QB leagues. He should be grabbed within the top five in two-QB or Superflex formats.

C.J. Stroud QB, OHIOST

Height: 6-3, Weight: 215

They had to take the shot at the quarterback, so itā€™s the smart thing to do. I would have taken Will Levis, but I get it. Stroud has the ability to become a good starting quarterback. (Pete Prisco)

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 92.10 (All-Pro)

Pro Comparison: Geno Smith

Accolades:Ā

  • Two-time Heisman Trophy finalist (second in 2022, fourth in 2021)
  • Most pass TD (85) in two-year span in Big Ten history

Summary:

C.J. Stroud is a better all-around QB coming out of Ohio State than Justin Fields, and he showed that he has the athleticism to win with his legs in the Georgia game. He will be in the conversation for QB1.

Strengths:

  • Will get through same-side progressions, and ball comes out quickly
  • Proved vs. Georgia that he can win with his legs if he needs to
  • Can throw off-platform with rushers in his face; will drop it in the bucket off-platform
  • Doesn't throw with a lot of anticipation but does throw accurately
  • Understands where hot reads are vs. CB blitz
  • When he's locked in, can drop into the bucket on deep throws; shows good touch to all three levels

Weaknesses:

  • While generally accurate, can miss by small amounts on short throws
  • Tries to get through reads but can hurry through them when pressured, then can panic in clean pocket
  • Won't pull trigger on anticipation throws into tight windows
  • Sometimes late seeing targets come open

Anthony Richardson QB, FLA

Height: 6-4, Weight: 232

This should have been Will Levis. I like Richardson, but he will take time. His ceiling is amazing, but the Colts need to be patient with him. This is a boom or bust pick. (Pete Prisco)

B

Richardson immediately enters the NFL as one of the most intriguing high-upside, if-you're-not-first-you're-last kind of draft picks. The same people who targeted Trey Lance in the back-end QB1 range with hopes of a breakout will be targeting Richardson in a similar range. Richardson joins a Colts offense that swapped out Parris Campbell for some combination of rookie Josh Downs and Isaiah McKenzie, and with both Michael Pittman and Alec Pierce returning as big-bodied vertical threats -- the profile that fits Richardson's skill set best -- we could see him live up to his hype in Year 1 if the offensive line has a bounceback season. If you draft him as your QB1, pairing him with a higher floor QB like Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins or Dak Prescott makes a lot of sense. In rookie-only drafts, Richardson should be a top-five pick in one-QB formats and the No. 2 overall pick in two-QB or Superflex formats.

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 90.47 (All-Pro)

Pro Comparison: Marcus Peters

Accolades:Ā

  • 2022: First-team All-American (AP)
  • 2022: Fewest yards/attempt allowed (3.0) in FBS (minimum 50 attempts)

Summary:

Devon Witherspoon is neither the biggest nor the twitchiest prospect at his position. However, he makes up for it with his preparation and anticipation. Witherspoon is a great leader and a fiery competitor who is willing to play downhill and tackle in the flat.

Strengths:

  • Elite competitor, fiery personality
  • Will play downhill and attack the flat
  • Competitive at the catch point
  • High football IQ
  • Will jam and stab to re-route wide receivers

Weaknesses:

  • Needs to pack more weight on his 6-foot frame
  • Average top-end and recovery speed
  • Plays through the wide receiver's back too often

Bijan Robinson RB, TEXAS

Height: 6-0, Weight: 220

This is way too high for a back, even if heā€™s a really good player. Backs donā€™t decide Super Bowls. I know Arthur Smith loves backs, but this is a deep draft of backs and history isnā€™t kind to this type of move. I donā€™t like it because of position value. Good player, bad position. (Pete Prisco)

D

Robinson enters the NFL as the highest-regarded prospect at the running back position since Saquon Barkley, and some would argue he's a more complete back. The Falcons earned the highest rushing grade in the NFL in 2022, according to Pro Football Focus, with an excellent and diverse run blocking scheme installed by coach Arthur Smith and his assistants. Smith coordinated a dominant rushing attack as offensive coordinator with the Titans led by Derrick Henry, and the blueprint is likely to be the same now with a talent like Robinson. Robinson set a record for the most forced missed tackles in a single season, per PFF's game charting, and he enters the NFL as one of the biggest mismatches in the passing game at the position. The Falcons will get him the ball early and often in the red zone, early downs and in the passing game. He is screaming up draft boards as we speak and you'll probably have to use a mid-first-round pick to get him. Robinson should be the first pick overall in rookie-only drafts.

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 92.60 (All-Pro)

Pro Comparison: Jeffery Simmons

Accolades:

  • 2022 unanimous All-American
  • Two-time CFP national champion (2021, 2022)

Summary:

Jalen Carter has elite quickness for a player of his size. His value increases as a result of a shortage of pass rush-capable interior defenders. A relatively young prospect, Carter has had limited pass-rush production and is still developing in that area. The Georgia defense has primarily relied on the athleticism of its players to run games and create chaos. He has great strength to play the run.

Strengths:

  • Uses strength and leverage to gain ground
  • Great quickness to attack gaps
  • Plays with great balance

Weaknesses:

  • Limited pass-rush production
  • Plays too high at times
  • Displays a variety of pass-rush moves but needs to string them together for a refined pass-rush plan

Summary:

Lateral quickness and speed to run the arc are concerns, but he has a relentless attitude to finish plays. Wright has long arms to shock and re-direct rushers.

Strengths:

  • Strong upper body that allows him to absorb contact
  • Long arms to shock and re-direct rushers
  • Relentless attitude to finish plays
  • Showed improved handle of inside counters from 2021 to 2022

Weaknesses:

Jahmyr Gibbs RB, BAMA

Yes, heā€™s an air back. Yes, he can do a lot of things. But, again, why take him here when there is a guy like corner Christian Gonzalez on the board? Heā€™s good but heā€™s a back. At least it wasnā€™t a top-10 pick.

D

Gibbs is expected to be the Lions' passing-downs back while also splitting rushing duties with David Montgomery. Detroit was a running back stat-factory last year, leading the NFL with 27 RB rushing touchdowns while ranking fifth in RB carries and ninth in RB targets. That should continue. Gibbs was an elusive three-down player at Alabama, totaling 10 touchdowns in 12 games with raucous 6.1-yard rushing and 10.1-yard receiving averages last year. He profiles just like Jamaal Charles: a fast, lean runner with very good receiving skills. If D'Andre Swift averaged over 13 PPR points in each of his first three years in Detroit, Gibbs should too -- and with the chance at seeing more touches. Someone in every seasonal draft will take Gibbs before 60th overall, maybe as high as 40th overall, with the hope he accomplishes more than any Lions running back has since Barry Sanders.

Rating: 89.60 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Jaelan Phillips

Accolades:Ā

  • 2022: Second-team All-Big Ten
  • Tied-second most sacks in Big Ten over past two seasons (14.0)

Summary:

Long, dynamic pass-rusher with advanced game. He loves the two-arm bench press and is very effective with it because of his burst, sheer power, and length to keep blockers off his frame. He counters off that patented start to his rushes with arm over, inside crossover, and rip move to the outside. He's very polished with his hand work and can win with first-step quickness and sustained speed to the football. He often squeezed through gaps with athleticism alone. He has to get stronger, and he's not overly twitchy. When utilized inside, his length presents problems for blockers. He's a big-time prospect.

Strengths:

  • Long with athletic physical profile
  • Bench press is good, and routinely counters off it
  • Can win on the interior with first-step quickness

Weaknesses:

  • Bend is lacking
  • At times spends too much time grappling with blockers
  • Wasn't a full-time player in 2022

Summary:

Broderick Jones is a young, but physically gifted offensive tackle with great strength and good quickness. His technique has improved from 2021, but he needs to continue on that path. NFL opponents have more play strength, so Jones will not be able to solely rely on his natural strength.

Strengths:

  • Gets out of his stance quickly
  • Great natural strength
  • Good lateral agility
  • Good size for the tackle position

Weaknesses:

Strengths:

Pro Comparison: Logan Wilson

Accolades:Ā

  • 2022: 13th player in program history to earn unanimous consensus All-America honors

Summary:

Jack Campbell is a smart, savvy LB who IDs plays in an instant. He stays square to the line so that he's not susceptible to cutback lanes. He is solid defeating blocks. He has limited athleticism. He has no major twitch or explosiveness to the football. He has impressive sinking/flipping his hips in coverage. He has an outstanding feel of route concepts that will occur behind him and will make plays on the football at the intermediate level. His huge, lengthy frame makes him more rangy than athleticism indicates. Sure tackler. Speed/athleticism will limit his ceiling in the NFL, but this is an ultra-experienced, ready-to-go three-down LB.

Strengths:

  • Savvy and technically sound
  • Stays square to the line to avoid cutback lane susceptibility
  • Block-shedding game is good
  • Plenty of ball production in college
  • Coverage feel and instincts are awesome
  • Size and length for days

Weaknesses:

Pro Comparison: Aaron Donald

Accolades:Ā

  • 2022: First Pitt unanimous All-American since Aaron Donald
  • 2022: Second in ACC in pressure rate (18%)

Summary:

Calijah Kancey is a short, undersized, electric upfield rusher. If he has any space, look out. He's ultra twitchy and Can sustain speed once he's in the backfield. His arm over, swipe, and rip are locked and loaded in the pass-rush move arsenal. He can lean on first-step eruption to win against half a blocker. At times, his style takes him out of a play and can even open a big rushing lane. Losses are mostly to bigger maulers and can be ugly. He constantly battles. Even if he loses initially, he'll fight to make the most of the rep. Length is a clear issue, but his Power is deceptive because of a low center of gravity. Counters are super-quick. For teams looking for a pure one-gap penetrator and is not too concerned with size deficiency, this is the premier prospect to target in this class.

Strengths:

  • Exemplifies explosiveness
  • Loaded pass-rush move arsenal
  • Motor is revving every play
  • Battles against bigger blockers
  • Loads of productivity in college

Weaknesses:

Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR, OHIOST

The Seahawks need to get help at the receiver spot and they are getting a guy some consider the best in the class. I donā€™t, but heā€™s a good player. He will help Geno Smith a bunch to go with D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. (Pete Prisco)

B

In terms of 2023 value, Smith-Njigba's landing spot doesn't look great. After all, receivers other than Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf combined for just 75 targets in Seattle last year. But the Seahawks didn't draft him in the first round just to have him learn from Lockett and Metcalf this year. The Seahawks threw 136 passes to tight ends last year and spent most of the year in two tight end sets, and that is what you should expect to change. If Metcalf and Lockett stay healthy all year, Smith-Njigba is likely a WR4 at best, but he has enormous upside if either miss time or if Father Time catches up to Lockett. We wouldn't draft Smith-Njigba before Round 10 in a redraft league, but he's a top-three pick in one-QB rookie only drafts.

C

If you're looking for a comp for Johnston, you could do worse than looking across the locker room at Mike Williams. Both are big-bodied receivers drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft who have had some separation and route-running question marks. Williams averaged 71.7 yards per game at Clemson, and Johnston averaged 73 at TCU. The Chargers are hoping Johnston does a better job staying healthy, but they'd be thrilled if Johnston could give them what Williams has per game the last two years. In rookie drafts, Johnston is a surefire first-round pick in all formats who could go as early as No. 4 in one-QB leagues. In redraft, leave him for the double-digit rounds unless Williams misses time in training camp with his back injury.

Accolades:

Summary:

Zay Flowers is short but not small, twitched-up inside and out wideout. His short-area explosiveness is special, and it doesn't take long for him to reach top speed. He runs super-sharp, no-nonsense routes. He has a tiny catch radius but fights in every contested-catch situation. He has lateral quicks and tenacity to work through press coverage with good regularity, and his athleticism allows him to be weapon after the catch. He has adequate power to his game due to a thicker lower half and shows sheer will through contact. He doesn't have the most reliable hands, but drops aren't concerning issue. He has great speed. He was held back production-wise by blah QB play. Height will hinder him at times, but he's a pro-ready wideout made for the modern-day game.

Strengths:

Accolades:Ā

  • 2021 (at Pittsburgh): Tied-most receiving TD (17) in FBS

Summary:

Jordan Addison is an advanced, dynamic wideout with outside and inside experience and a complete game. He's smaller and skinnier in stature and not a super twitched up, hyper athlete, but he gets the most out of his athletic gifts with sharp breaks in his routes. He battles through contact in the route and gets North-South in a hurry. His speed looks like a clear positive to his game, and he will threaten most CBs in the NFL. Not a true burner, though, and not a contested-catch guy because of his smaller frame/catch radius, but his hands are rock solid. His ball-tracking is very good, and he can run a variety of routes. Overall, he's a high-floor, somewhat-high-upside WR who should move the needle early in his NFL career.

Strengths:

  • Sharp, sudden routes at all levels
  • Good explosion/lean while running routes and after the catch
  • Catches everything, rock-solid hands

Weaknesses:

Deonte Banks CB, MD

Height: 6-2, Weight: 205

Heā€™s an impressive man-cover player who will fit in perfectly with Wink Martindaleā€™s defense. Banks is a cocky player who played his best against good players. I like this pick. (Pete Prisco)

B+

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 89.87 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Antonio Cromartie

Accolades:

  • 2022: Honorable mention All-Big Ten
  • 2022: Third-lowest completion percentage allowed (39%) in Big TenĀ

Summary:

Deonte Banks has good length and top-end speed to fulfill a man coverage role in the NFL. He is capable of staying in-phase up the boundary but does not get his eyes back to the ball. Banks is not afraid to be physical, but that can lead to him being too handsy downfield.

Strengths:

  • One missed tackle all of 2022
  • Good top-end speed to stay in-phase up the boundary
  • Great length to play man coverage role

Weaknesses:

  • Handsy in coverage downfield
  • Limited ball production as a result of not getting his eyes back
  • Missed all but two games during the 2022 season due to injury

Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.35 seconds
  • Vertical: 42 inches
  • Broad Jump: 11 feet, 4 inches

Dalton Kincaid TE, UTAH

Height: 6-4, Weight: 240

This is a strange pick when you consider they have Dawson Knox and have a few more pressing needs. Kincaid is a good player, but the position doesnā€™t make sense and they traded up to get him. (Pete Prisco)

C

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 86.80 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Dennis Pitta

Accolades:

  • 2022: First-team All-Pac-12
  • 2022: Most receptions by FBS tight end (70)

Summary:

Dalton Kincaid is one of the best pass-catching tight ends in this class who also shows the ability -- and willingness -- to run block. He may need to add 10 pounds at the next level, but he has the athleticism to win regularly downfield against linebackers and safeties. He's a contested-catch machine who will turn 24 next October.

Strengths:

  • Athleticism and speed show up consistently on tape
  • Will mix it up as an inline blocker
  • Competent lead blocker on the perimeter; looks for contact and sustains it
  • Quick off the line of scrimmage, can win with footwork and hand usage, then gets leverage separation early in route
  • Shows consistently good hands. Looks for contact and has knack for making first tackler miss in space
  • Contested catch machine

Weaknesses:

  • Will turn 24 in October
  • Can sometimes fail to sustain blocks in run game
  • While athletic/quick for TE, doesn't consistently create separation on vertical routes

Mazi Smith DL, MICH

Height: 6-3, Weight: 337

Smith is another one of my favorite players. Heā€™s a power player who can hold up against the run, but I think he will be a better pass rusher than people expect. He just needs to keep his weight in check. (Pete Prisco)

A

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 84.13 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Vita Vea

Accolades:

  • 2022: Consensus first-team All-Big Ten
  • 2022: Michigan Defensive Player of the Year

Summary:

Mazi Smith is one of the most athletic NTs to enter the NFL in a while. Not compact, but tall and wide. His flashes of pass-rush ability are outstanding; push-pull, arm over, straight bull rush all very solid, although he's not a bulldozer pushing the pocket. His leverage isn't great. He does adequate planting roots against doubles teams, but it's not a specialty. His run-stopping is mostly contingent upon him using his athleticism to get to the ball. He's not a tremendous block-shedder right now. However, he tracks down RBs very well for being a large NT. He won't be an every-down player in the NFL, but his physical profile and pass-rushing refinement make him a fun NT prospect.

Strengths:

  • Tall, thick frame; unique for the NT spot
  • Veteran-caliber pass-rush moves to win up the field
  • Has the athleticism to get to RBs in close quarters, and has a large tackling radius

Weaknesses:

  • Could get a tick stronger
  • Leverage is very high for an inside rusher, which saps his power
  • Not a tremendous block-shedder

Combine Results:

  • Bench Press: 34 reps

Anton Harrison OT, OKLA

Height: 6-5, Weight: 315

They traded down and still landed a tackle they probably would have taken at No. 24. Thatā€™s good drafting. Harrison can come in and play left tackle or right tackle, depending on where they play Walker Little with Cam Robinson out serving a suspension. (Pete Prisco)

B+

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating:Ā 87.73 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Lucas Niang

Accolades:

  • 2022: First-team All-Big 12
  • 2022: One sack allowed on 425 pass block snaps

Summary:

Anton Harrison is a young player with great strength. His technique has improved over the past year, showing an ability to adjust his feet when engaged and good independent hand usage. He plays too high occasionally and yet is still able to create torque through his core.

Strengths:

  • Comfortable through his arc, does not abandon technique
  • Drives his feet on contact in the run game
  • Does some pulling and blocking in space
  • Does a good job of adjusting his feet to stay engaged

Weaknesses:

  • Average-to-below average recovery speed
  • Below-average top-end speed
  • Plays too high occasionally

Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.98 seconds
  • Vertical: 28.5 inches
  • Broad Jump:Ā 8 feet, 9 inches

28

Myles Murphy EDGE, CLEM

Height: 6-5, Weight: 275

There is great value in getting Murphy in this spot. If they want to win a Super Bowl, they have to beat the great quarterbacks in the AFC. That means pressure. Murphy joins a good group and gives them fresh legs. (Pete Prisco)

B

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 89.07 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Emmanuel Ogbah

Accolades:

  • 2022 First-team All-ACC, 2021 second-team All-ACC
  • Second-most sacks (18.5) in ACC over past three seasons

Summary:

Myles Murphy is an edge rusher with great size, speed and power. He showed an improved prowess to stack and shed blockers in 2021. The Georgia native needs to construct more of a pass-rush plan and develop an inside counter for when his initial rush is stopped. He does a good job of impacting pass lanes when his rush does not get home.

Strengths:

  • Natural athlete with great size and speed
  • Impacts passing lanes when rush does not get home
  • Quick off the snap, does a good job of shooting gaps
  • Good strength leads to an ability to turn speed to power

Weaknesses:

  • Played with less urgency, regressed from 2021 to 2022
  • Needs to develop pass-rush moves and create more of a plan
  • Occasionally works too deep in his pass rush

Combine Results:

  • Bench Press: 25 reps

Bryan Bresee DL, CLEM

Height: 6-5, Weight: 290

This is a need pick. They suffered some hits at defensive tackle in free agency, so they had to find help. Bresee had injuries and other things that held him back at Clemson, but he has a ton of talent. That will show up on the next level. (Pete Prisco)

Nolan Smith EDGE, UGA

Height: 6-3, Weight: 235

He is a smallish edge player who will have to be used situationally by the Eagles. He has speed and quickness, but he needs to gain weight. With the Eagles, he can be used in that role. (Pete Prisco)

B

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 88.90 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Zack Baun

Accolades:

  • 2021-22: Combined 71 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks
  • Heaviest player with 40-plus-inch vertical jump and sub-4.40-second 40-yard-dash time at NFL Combine since 2003 (238 pounds)

Summary:

Nolan Smith is the latest in a long line of dominant Georgia defenders destined for the early rounds. He's an undersized, quick-twitch athlete who plays much bigger than his size. He has the frame to add weight at the next level, but he'll also need to improve in pass coverage, something he was rarely asked to do for the Bulldogs.

Strengths:

  • Elite change of direction, athleticism, twitchiness and quickness
  • Despite lack of size, shows ability to hold ground vs. offensive tackles; can set the edge vs. the run
  • Plus athlete who can play the flat in coverage
  • Has open-field athleticism to make plays in space
  • Can shoot gaps in zone stretch and be disruptive in backfield
  • Can navigate through trash/down LOS to get to ball carrier, wrap-up tackler
  • Plays much bigger than his size

Weaknesses:

  • Undersized; will struggle to consistently generate pressure vs. bigger/stronger/quicker OT
  • Not asked to do much in coverage
  • Missed part of 2022 season with a pectoral injury

Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.39 seconds
  • Vertical: 41.5 inches
  • Broad Jump: 10 feet, 8 inches

Felix Anudike-Uzomah EDGE, KSTATE

Height: 6-4, Weight: 255

He fills a position of need on the edge, but I didnā€™t love his tape. He was miscast at Kansas State, playing more inside than on the edge. But I am not sure heā€™s a dynamic edge player. (Pete Prisco)

C+

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 84.43 (Long-term starter)

Pro Comparison: Arden Key

Accolades:

  • 2022: Third-team AP All-American (Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year)
  • Tied-fourth-most sacks in FBS in past two seasons (19.5)

Summary:

Felix Anudike-Uzomah is a high-energy, bendy rusher with serious suddenness. Counter moves are a planned part of his game, and he loves the cross chop and the inside swim off his straight arm. His bend/dip flashes are high-end and useful. He's occasionally overmatched in the run game but works hard in that area. He needs to get stronger. Big-time capabilities on stunts because of his burst and closing speed, as he rushed from mostly 3-man fronts. He has All-Pro upside as a traditoinal outside rusher.

Strengths:

  • Burst and bend combination are high end
  • Has serious counter-move ability
  • Very planned rushes
  • Motor runs very hot

Weaknesses:

  • Occasionally overmatched against the run
  • Power isn't brutal but not a weapon yet
  • Spin move needs work
  • On the ground a bit more than most high-profile prospects

Summary on Desjuan Johnson:

"Desjuan Johnson is an undersized interior defender who makes up for it with a quick first step and good grip strength. He can do a better job of stacking and shedding blockers in the run games. Johnson had a 17.2% missed tackle rate in 2022."

Summary on Alex Forsyth:

"Alex Forsyth is an interior offensive lineman with good size and active eyes. He plays with good leverage and has good upper body strength to drive defenders off the ball. The lineman is a power/gap scheme specific blocker who needs to do a better job of adjusting his hands and feet once engaged. He does not have ideal top-end speed but does a good job of keeping his hands inside the pads."

Summary on Grant Dubose:

"Grant DuBose is a big body, well proportioned and gets off line of scrimmage with some juice. He snatches the ball out of the air and is really good in space; he can make defenders miss in small areas. He's more of a WR/TE hybrid, and maybe that's his role going forward."
