Soto extended the Padres' lead to 3-0 in the third inning with a two-run, 449-foot blast off Kyle Freeland, his third homer in his last two games. Soto now has hits in six straight contests, going 12-for-25 (.480) with five multi-hit efforts in that span. Padres' Juan Soto: MRI results reassuring
MRI results on Soto's right middle finger showed progress compared to the scan he had done in January, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Soto has been playing through a finger issue that has bothered him for quite some time, and he underwent imaging Thursday to determine if there was a larger issue. Luckily, his scans came back clean and showed progress from a scan he received in the offseason. Despite his finger troubles, the 24-year-old superstar is slashing .267/.424/.667 with five homers and 16 RBI since the All-Star break.

Padres' Juan Soto: Starting despite pending MRI
Soto is in the Padres' lineup Friday, but manager Bob Melvin said the team is still awaiting results from the MRI on the outfielder's right middle finger, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Soto didn't start Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh due to concerns about his finger, but he later entered as a pinch hitter and drew a walk. The finger has apparently been bothering him for a while, potentially contributing to a .214 batting average (15-for-70) since July 1 -- although Soto also has a .380 OBP and .529 SLG over that stretch.

Soto will receive an MRI on his right middle finger Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Padres manager Bob Melvin previously said that Soto's finger had been bothering the young slugger since spring training, and Soto will use the Padres' off day Thursday to see if there's anything to be concerned about. Soto's finger hasn't affected his performance much, as he holds a .902 OPS with six homers and 19 RBI since the beginning of July.

Padres' Juan Soto: Will sit Wednesday
Padres manager Bob Melvin said after Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Padres that Soto will sit out Wednesday's series finale, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
According to Melvin, Soto has been bothered by a finger injury since spring training, but the outfielder's absence from the lineup Wednesday seems to be mostly for maintenance-related reasons. The Padres are off Thursday, so Soto will get two full days to rest up before the club returns to action Friday versus the Rangers. In Tuesday's contest, Soto went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, his 20th of the season.

Soto put the Padres on the board with a solo shot in the first and extended the lead to 5-0 in the third with a two-run blast. He also recorded at least one walk for a fourth straight game, totaling six free passes during that stretch. After a slow start, Soto has put things together and is on pace to match his career averages. He's currently slashing .266/.423/.504 with 19 home runs, 57 RBI, 57 runs scored and six stolen bases over 98 games (433 plate appearances).

He got the rout started with a two-run shot off Alek Manoah in the first inning, Soto's 17th homer of the year. The 24-year-old is batting just .213 (10-for-47) so far in July, but that comes with a .361 OBP thanks to 12 walks along with 10 runs and 12 RBI in 13 games.

The 24-year-old padded the Padres' lead in the ninth inning with a homer to straightaway center field. Earlier in the at-bat, Soto appeared to be wincing in pain and shaking his right hand, but evidently the issue is not too serious. After a slow start to the season, Soto has his OPS up to .905.
