  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Sharp in no-decision

Crawford did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing four hits and a walk over five scoreless innings in a 6-3 loss to the Mariners. He struck out five. Crawford's pitched well since moving into Boston's rotation in early June, holding opponents to three runs or fewer in seven of his 10 outings (48.1 innings) while working to a 3.72 ERA in that span. Overall, the 27-year-old right-hander is 5-5 with a 3.62 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 81:19 K:BB across 82 innings this season. Crawford's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Royals in his next outing, where he should be a solid streaming option.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Rebounds for fifth win

Crawford (5-5) allowed a run on three hits and walk while striking out seven over 5.2 innings to earn the win Friday over the Giants. Crawford was tagged for four runs over four innings versus the Mets last Friday, but he responded well. He came up an out short of a quality start in his second strong outing of three since the All-Star break. The right-hander is now at a 3.86 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 76:18 K:BB through 77 innings across 20 appearances (12 starts). Crawford is projected for a road start in Seattle next week.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Possible waiver wire pickups

Crawford has long been on the fringes of Fantasy relevance as a pitcher who generates whiffs and throws strikes, but Sunday's start was a rare example of it all coming together. He one-hit the Cubs over six innings, striking out nine. Just as impressive were his 17 whiffs on 89 pitches, including six on eight sweepers, a relatively new pitch that he still isn't incorporating much yet. But maybe that's going to change. After the game, pitching coach Dave Bush spoke about Crawford's need to find the right mix of his six pitches, and the right-hander echoed those sentiments. "We want to stay away from the Jell-O," Crawford said, referring to the pitches that yield the most damage. The 27-year-old remains on the fringes of Fantasy relevance until he can crank out these starts with regularity, but he's worth a speculative pickup in deeper leagues.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Strikes out nine in win

Crawford (4-4) allowed a hit and walked four while striking out nine over six scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday over the Cubs. It was an overall good start for Crawford, with both the walks and strikeouts being season highs. It's just the third time he's gone at least six innings this season. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 3.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 67:17 K:BB through 67.1 innings over 18 appearances (10 starts). He's tentatively lined up for a home start against the Mets his next time out.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Limits Toronto to two runs in win

Crawford (3-4) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out five. Crawford gave up a leadoff home run to George Springer to open the bottom of the first but was able to keep his composure, allowing just one more run over the next 4.2 innings, which again came on the long ball. The right-hander produced 14 swinging strikes on the afternoon while recording five strikeouts for the third time in his last four starts. Crawford has now won two of his last three decisions, though he's also allowed two home runs in back-back-back starts after not allowing more than one in any of his appearances since April 3 against the Pirates.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Gives up four runs in loss

Crawford (2-4) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the White Sox. Crawford completed six innings for just the second time in 15 appearances (seven starts) this season. Three of the four runs against him came on a pair of Luis Robert home runs, making this the first time Crawford's given up a long ball since May 22. The right-hander now has a 4.01 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 50:10 K:BB over 51.2 innings this season. He's projected to make his next start in Toronto.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Tosses five scoreless

Crawford (2-3) earned the win Tuesday, allowing six hits over five scoreless innings against the Twins. He struck out five. Crawford made his sixth start of the season Tuesday -- his third straight after a lengthy stint in the bullpen -- and managed to blank the Twins over five frames. After being limited to 58 pitches after re-entering the rotation, Crawford has managed to throw 80 and 77 pitches in his last two starts. However, Tuesday was his first time pitching into the fifth inning since April 17. Though Crawford owns a 3.74 ERA in 13 appearances overall, that figure balloons to 5.63 -- albeit with a 28:5 K:BB -- when splitting out his 24 innings as a starter.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Early exit in no-decision

Crawford didn't factor into then decision in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Rockies, giving up four runs on five hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out five. The right-hander also uncorked two wild pitches in an erratic performance that saw him exit the game with the Red Sox down 4-0, only for his offense to bail him out. Crawford tossed 80 pitches (53 strikes), his biggest workload since his first appearance of the season April 3, but those are also the only two times this year he's been tagged for more than three runs. He might be better suited for long relief, but with Chris Sale (shoulder) out and both Nick Pivetta and Corey Kluber struggling in the bullpen, Crawford may be Boston's best option for the final spot in the rotation. If the 27-year-old gets another turn, he'll take a 4.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB through 40.2 innings into a road start early next week against the Twins.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Stays in rotation

The Red Sox plan to have Crawford remain in the starting rotation, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Crawford gets a vote of confidence even after giving up three runs on five hits in a loss to the Guardians on Wednesday, when he moved back into the rotation as a replacement for the injured Chris Sale (shoulder). Crawford was limited to just 58 pitches in that outing, and it's likely he won't be able to work especially deep into games in his next couple of starts. Still, Crawford has mostly been a strong option for the Red Sox in 2023, and he'll get at least one more chance to prove he belongs as a member of the rotation.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Tosses three innings in spot start

Crawford (1-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits over three innings against the Guardians. He struck out three and didn't issue a walk. Crawford, who had been operating as a reliever since late April, got the spot start with Chris Sale (shoulder) moving to the injured list. As expected, the right-hander was limited to just 58 pitches (41 strikes), and he figures to stick in the rotation moving forward, but his workload will presumably remain restricted for another start or two while he gets stretched back out. Crawford's next outing is projected for a three-game homestand versus the Rockies.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Confirmed for Wednesday

Crawford is listed as the Red Sox's starting pitcher for Wednesday's game in Cleveland. Just as manager Alex Cora suggested would be the case earlier in the week, Crawford will fill the opening in the Boston rotation that was created by Chris Sale's (shoulder) move to the injured list last weekend. Because he's largely been serving as a reliever since late April, Crawford hasn't tossed more than four innings or 52 pitches in any of his last seven outings in the majors, so he may have some workload restrictions in place for a start or two while he gets stretched back out.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Expected to start Wednesday

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Crawford will likely start Wednesday's game in Cleveland, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Assuming Crawford gets the ball Wednesday, he'll be pitching on three days' rest, after he most recently covered three innings as a starter in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday with the Rays. With that in mind, Crawford could have his pitch count managed carefully Wednesday, and he could struggle to work deep enough into the outing to qualify for a win. Crawford is expected to join the rotation as a replacement for Chris Sale (shoulder), who landed on the injured list Friday.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Solid in spot start

Crawford didn't factor into the decision in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays, allowing one run on two hits over three innings. He struck out three without walking a batter. Making his third start in 11 appearances and first since April 9, Crawford lasted 40 pitches (29 strikes) and did his best to soak up some innings after five Boston relievers had to pitch in the matinee. The 27-year-old has been effective in a swingman role this season, posting a 3.48 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB through 33.2 innings, and with Chris Sale (shoulder) back on the IL, Crawford could get stretched out and moved into the rotation if Sale's absence proves to be lengthy.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Diagnosed with bruised right ankle

Crawford was removed from Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks with a bruised right ankle, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Crawford was hit in the ankle by a comebacker, and he was unable to continue after throwing a few warmup pitches. The right-hander will likely need to undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury, but for now he's considered day-to-day.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Removed with apparent injury

Crawford was removed from Saturday's game against Arizona with a trainer after being hit in the foot by a comebacker, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Crawford was able to make the play after the ball hit him in the foot, but after a few warmup pitches he was removed from the contest. Chris Martin has entered the game in Crawford's place. The right-hander should be considered day-to-day at this stage.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Takes loss in return

Crawford (1-2) was tagged with the loss against the Angels on Monday. He allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three over two innings. Crawford was taken deep in the eighth inning by Mickey Moniak. This was Crawford's first stint since being activated off the injured list due to a hamstring injury. The Red Sox will be activating Garrett Whitlock (elbow) later this week, at which point the team may send Crawford down to Triple-A Worcester, where he can work as a starter.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Activated off injured list

Crawford (hamstring) was activated off the 15-day injured list by the Red Sox on Friday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Crawford ended up missing the minimum 15 days while recovering from a mild left hamstring strain. Ryan Sherriff was optioned back to Triple-A Worcester as the corresponding transaction. Crawford should be a multi-inning option now that he's back in the major-league bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Makes rehab appearance

Crawford (hamstring) allowed one run on three hits while striking out four over three innings of relief in a rehab appearance at Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. Crawford worked behind rehabbing right-hander Garrett Whitlock (elbow), who started the contest. The Red Sox are expected to activate Crawford later this week, so the appearance he made Tuesday may be all he needs to get the green light to rejoin the big club.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Expected back Friday

Crawford (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list Friday in San Diego, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. He will follow Garrett Whitlock (elbow) in a rehab outing Tuesday with Triple-A Worcester, with his next appearance expected to come out of the big-league bullpen. Crawford has been effective in long relief and logged a 1.25 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 21.1 innings across his six most recent MLB appearances.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: More quality relief work

Crawford allowed one run on three hits and struck out three over four relief innings in Friday's 5-2 loss to Cleveland. Crawford has been dominant coming out of the bullpen. The minor-league starter has allowed one run on five hits while walking none and striking out 10 over 12.1 innings of relief. Garrett Whitlock's elbow injury opened a spot in the rotation, but the Red Sox called up Brayan Bello to start Saturday, which means Crawford will remain in the bullpen.
