Player Outlook
Tillman is a big, physical outside receiver coming off of five years of college football. His 2022 season at Tennessee was marred by an ankle sprain that required surgery and ultimately cost him six games. Despite that, he scored 15 times over his final 19 games, averaging 14.8 yards per catch in that time. For a 6-foot-3 receiver, Tillman has good speed and definitely has an aggressive nature to fight for contested catches, but he's still a work in progress as a route runner and isn't a natural separator. He might develop into a reliable option in Cleveland over the next year or two, which is why he's not worth even a late pick in 2023 seasonal leagues but is worth the spend in Dynasty rookie-only drafts at or after 25th overall.

  • Browns' Cedric Tillman: Two catches in preseason opener

Tillman secured two of three targets for 35 yards during the Browns' 21-16 preseason win over the Jets in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game. The 2023 third-round pick tied with Austin Watkins for the team lead in receiving yardage while also recording the Browns' second-longest catch of the night (20 yards). Tillman was a 1,000-yard receiver at Tennessee in 2021 before being limited to six games as a senior, and with Marquise Goodwin (illness) on the NFI list indefinitely, the rookie could carve out a No. 4 receiver role with a strong enough summer.

  • Browns' Cedric Tillman: Added by Cleveland in third round

The Browns selected Tillman in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 74th overall. Tillman (6-foot-3, 213 pounds) went one pick after fellow Tennessee receiver Jalin Hyatt (Giants), but Tillman is the more well-rounded of the two. Though his 4.54-second 40 makes Tillman the lesser big-play threat of the duo, his much sturdier frame and otherwise adequate athleticism (37-inch vertical, 128-inch broad jump) renders him more versatile overall. However, in his rookie campaign, Tillman likely projects to compete with David Bell to serve as the swing backup at receiver behind the top three of Amari Cooper, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Elijah Moore.
