  • Luke Voit: Opts out of deal

Voit opted out of his minor-league contract with the Mets on Thursday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. Mayer adds that Voit has officially been released from Triple-A Syracuse, where had posted a shiny 1.058 OPS with 14 home runs and 35 RBI through 37 games. The 32-year-old slugger might already have an opportunity lined up elsewhere as heads back into free agency.

  • Mets' Luke Voit: Gets minors deal from Mets

Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Voit was cut loose by the Brewers earlier this month after putting up a lowly .549 OPS through 74 plate appearances. He will report to Triple-A Syracuse for the time being but could get a look with the Mets before long as they deal with the loss of Pete Alonso (wrist).

  • Luke Voit: Released by Milwaukee

The Brewers released Voit on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Voit earned a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster after he turned some heads during spring training, but his performance failed to carry over into the regular season. The 32-year-old first baseman holds a .549 OPS on the season through 74 plate appearances and could latch on with another team as a bench piece.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Activated and DFA'd

The Brewers reinstated Voit (neck) from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Voit recently wrapped up an eight-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville and appears to be fully recovered from a neck strain, but the Brewers don't have a spot available for him on the roster. Rather than clearing a spot for Voit, the Brewers will stick with Darin Ruf as their preferred right-handed-hitting option at first base or designated hitter. If Voit isn't claimed off waivers by another team, expect him to elect free agency rather than staying in the organization and accepting an outright assignment to Nashville.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Begins rehab assignment

Voit (neck) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Voit has been on the injured list only since Monday, so the fact that he's already ready for a rehab assignment suggests his neck strain was a minor one. The Brewers signed Darin Ruf to be a right-handed option at first base and designated hitter following Voit's injury, however, so Voit may face some competition in reclaiming his role. He failed to impress prior to landing on the injured list, slashing .221/.284/.265 with zero homers in 74 trips to the plate.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Lands on IL with neck strain

Milwaukee placed Voit on the 10-day injured list Monday with a strained neck. Voit will be eligible to return later this month, although it's unclear whether he'll be ready then. Milwaukee signed Darin Ruf to a one-year contract in a corresponding move, and he'll presumably replace Voit as a short-side platoon option at either first base or designated hitter.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Posts steal in win

Voit went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 win over the Royals. Voit has hit safely in four straight games, going 4-for-12 with six strikeouts in that span. The first baseman also set a new career high in steals with his second of the season in Friday's contest. He's hardly a speed threat, and his power has largely been absent in 2023 as well -- he's slugging just .273 with no home runs over 72 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Average on the rise

Voit went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI in Monday's victory over the Mariners. Voit recorded just two hits over his first 16 at-bats of the season, but he has picked up the pace, going 7-for-17 (.412) over the last four games he appeared in. He is still searching for the power, though, as his double Monday was his first extra-base hit of the season.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Logs second career steal

Voit went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in Wednesday's victory over the Mets. Voit picked up his first two hits of the season, and he also recorded only the second steal of his seven-year big-league career. While that benefited anyone who had him in a fantasy lineup Wednesday, it's unlikely that the slugger will add speed to his resume at 32 years old, particularly with him occupying a part-time role for the Brewers.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Back with Brewers on one-year pact

Voit re-signed Monday with the Brewers on a one-year deal that includes a club option for 2024, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Voit technically opted out of his minor-league contract with the Brewers over the weekend, but his return seemed likely after the team informed Keston Hiura that he wouldn't be included on the Opening Day roster. With Milwaukee officially designated Hiura for assignment Monday, the Brewers will now formally add Voit to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster. The 32-year-old should play regularly against left-handers and will get a little action versus righties, too, on days Jesse Winker plays the outfield.

  • Luke Voit: Opts out, but could return

Voit opted out of his minor-league contract with the Brewers on Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Hogg termed the transaction as a "procedural matter," suggesting that Voit could still rejoin the Brewers after assessing his options on the open market. By opting out of his deal, Voit will at least be eligible to negotiate with other clubs and see if a better opportunity exists elsewhere. If Voit rejoins Milwaukee on an MLB deal, he could form the short side of a platoon at first base with Rowdy Tellez and also see occasional starts at designated hitter versus right-handed pitching.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Scratch not injury-related

Voit's removal from the Brewers' Cactus League lineup Friday was not injury-related, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. It seems to have more to do with the pending opt-out clause in Voit's minor-league contract with Milwaukee. The 32-year-old slugger has slashed .316/.333/.526 with two home runs and two doubles over 39 plate appearances this spring in the Cactus League, so he should have other offers out there if the Brewers don't give him an Opening Day roster spot.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Scratched from lineup

Voit (undisclosed) was removed from Friday's lineup versus the Rockies, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. After he was initially set to start at first base and bat fifth, Voit was pulled from the lineup for an undisclosed reason. It's possible that the 32-year-old is on the verge of becoming a free agent, considering his opt-out clause was pushed to Friday.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Opt-out clause pushed back

Voit's opt-out clause has been pushed to Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. There is apparently mutual interest in things working out with Voit in Milwaukee, which is why he did not exercise his opt-out clause this week. The Brewers will look to find a way to add him to the 40-man roster before next weekend, but even if Voit makes the team, he is unlikely to start against righties, with Rowdy Tellez at first base and Jesse Winker presumably getting most of his starts at designated hitter.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Has out clause Thursday

Voit's minor-league contract with the Brewers contains an out clause that he can exercise Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Voit went 2-for-2 with a walk Monday versus the Reds and is now batting .346/.370/.538 with one home run over 10 Cactus League games. The Brewers surely would like to keep him around, but complicating matters is that Keston Hiura is competing for a similar role and he's out of options. Milwaukee and Voit will have some decisions to make this week.

  • Brewers' Luke Voit: Gets minors deal from Brewers

Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Voit is coming off a season for the Padres and Nationals in which he posted a .226/.308/.402 batting line with 22 home runs and 69 RBI. He'll give the Brew Crew another option at designated hitter and first base and would figure to be part of the Opening Day roster, barring any surprises. Voit turned 32 last week.

  • Luke Voit: Officially non-tendered

The Nationals declined to tender Voit a contract for 2023, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Rumors were swirling that Voit was likely to be non-tendered, and indeed the Nats decided to cut ties rather than pay Voit north of $5.5 million in arbitration. Voit hit just .228/.295/.381 with nine homers in 53 games with Washington after coming over from San Diego. He famously led the majors in homers with 22 during the shortened 2020 campaign.

  • Nationals' Luke Voit: Launches two-run homer

Voit went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three runs scored in a 13-4 win over Philadelphia in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Voit crushed a two-run, 440-foot blast off Kyle Gibson to complete a five-run inning for the Nats in the second. The first baseman later added a single in the seventh and came across to score three times in the game for only the second time this season. Voit has five RBI in his last five games and produced 10 RBI in the month of September, to go along with three homers.

  • Nationals' Luke Voit: Ends rough spell at plate

Voit went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to Atlanta. Even though the Nationals ended up squandering an early 2-0 lead, Voit at least ended a prolonged slump at the plate in emphatic fashion. Over his prior seven contests, Voit went just 2-for-29 with a whopping 16 strikeouts. Voit has produced an underwhelming .243/.316/.405 slash line since joining the Nationals at the trade deadline, but he'll still be locked into a full-time role over the final week of the season. He's serving as Washington's designated hitter and cleanup batter Wednesday.

  • Nationals' Luke Voit: Launches solo shot

Voit went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Marlins. Voit hit a third-inning solo homer to put the Nationals up 3-1. It was his 21st homer of the season, his third this month and his eighth since being acquired by the Nats. The first baseman extended his hit streak to six games with the solo shot. During that span, Voit has two homers, four RBI and three runs scored while raising his season batting average from .229 to .235.
