  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Homers, drives in five

Frelick went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, five RBI and an additional run scored in Thursday's 14-1 win over the Pirates. Frelick got the Brewers on the board in the first inning with a two-run double before blasting a three-run homer off Jose Hernandez in the sixth, extending the lead to 11-1. Frelick had cooled off after a fast start to his MLB career, going 0-for-14 in his previous five games. Overall, the rookie outfielder is 9-for-33 (.273) with a pair of homers, 11 runs scored and nine RBI across his first 46 plate appearances while drawing nearly twice as many walks (11) as strikeouts (6).

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Returns to lineup Thursday

Frelick (leg) is back in the lineup Thursday versus the Pirates. Frelick collided with the outfield wall Tuesday in Washington and was on the bench for Wednesday's series finale, but he suffered only a minor leg bruise and is good to go heading into the Brewers' four-game set against Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old will start in right field and bat fifth Thursday at American Family Field.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Banged up, but X-rays negative

Frelick's absence from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals may be a result of him getting bruised up in a collision with the outfield wall in Tuesday's 6-4 win, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Frelick collided with the wall in the bottom of the seventh, when he unsuccessfully tried to flag down a Corey Dickerson fly ball that resulted in a triple. He was able to stay in the game and finished the night with no hits and a walk over four plate appearances. Frelick was walking with a limp in the outfield after the play in question, but he told McCalvy that he underwent X-rays that returned negative and is just dealing with some bruising. The rookie looks to be day-to-day and could be ready to return to the lineup for Thursday's series opener with the Pirates.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Sits against lefty

Frelick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. With lefty MacKenzie Gore on the hill for Washington, the lefty-hitting Frelick will head to the bench after starting in each of the Brewers' last six games. He went hitless in the last four of those contests, bringing his batting average down to .241 through his first 10 games with Milwaukee. Tyrone Taylor will check in for Frelick in right field.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Belts first big-league long ball

Frelick went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 3-2 win against the Reds. After collecting four singles in six at-bats in his first two games in the majors, Frelick slugged a solo shot to right field in the sixth inning Monday for his first homer (and first extra-base hit). The 23-year-old also drew a walk in the contest, so he's reached base seven times in 12 plate appearances thus far. That pace is unsustainable, but Frelick is proving to be a dynamic addition to the Brewers' lineup and to fantasy squads that roster him.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Possible waiver wire pickups

Frelick was my No. 1 prospect to stash coming into the season, and here he is getting the call in late July finally. So why am I not rushing to the waiver wire eager to throw fists of FAB bucks at him? The reason he was delayed for so long is because he had surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament, and he hasn't looked quite right since returning, batting .255 at the same level (Triple-A) where he hit .365 last year. Still, the Brewers thought the time was right, and he's 4 for 8 in the majors so far. All of the hits are singles, but that's his MO. It's a profile not unlike Steven Kwan's, which means a lot is riding on Frelick batting .300 and stealing bases at a good clip. Go ahead and take the plunge in five-outfielder leagues, but in three-outfielder leagues, wait and see.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Earns first career call-up

Frelick was called up by the Brewers on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The Brewers hold onto a slim lead in the NL Central despite the fact that their offense sits fourth-worst in the league by team wRC+ (88), so they'll turn to one of their top prospects in an effort to kick-start a sputtering lineup. Frelick's overall numbers in 40 games for Triple-A Nashville are unimpressive, as he's hitting .247/.333/.342, but that line is dragged down by the thumb injury which cost him most of the first two months. He's gotten hot at the plate recently and is a career .314/.393/.451 hitter in the minors, so the 2019 15th overall pick could be able to help Milwaukee down the stretch. Don't expect much power, as he has 15 homers in 197 career professional games, but his 11.7 percent strikeout rate as a minor leaguer should give him a good shot at hitting for average at the highest level.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Surging at Triple-A

Frelick has gone 8-for-17 (.471) with a home run, two doubles, eight RBI, two stolen bases and a 2:0 BB:K over his last four games with Triple-A Nashville. Frelick was pretty quiet over the first half of July, but he's made all kinds of noise in recent days and racked up six RBI alone in Thursday's contest. His .683 OPS on the season does not stand out, but that can partly be attributed to a thumb injury, which he seems to have finally moved past. Frelick remains one of the better prospects in baseball, and the Brewers may give him a look in the big leagues before the season comes to a close.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Returns to lineup Sunday

Frelick (knee) is starting in center field and batting leadoff for Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. The 23-year-old sat out the past couple days after he fouled a pitch off his right knee Thursday, but he's already been cleared to rejoin the starting nine. Frelick missed most of the first two months of the season with a torn UCL in his thumb, but he has a .314/.429/.486 slash line in 10 games for Nashville since he returned from the injured list June 14.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Avoids serious injury

Frelick checked out fine after tests on his knee, and while he is out of Friday's lineup for Triple-A Nashville, he should be considered merely day-to-day, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The Brewers had a scare when Frelick fouled a ball off his knee and had to exit Thursday's game, but a serious injury has been ruled out. The speedy outfielder is batting .308 with one home run and two steals in 26 at-bats since returning from a thumb injury.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Exits Thursday with knee injury

Frelick fouled a ball off his right knee in the fifth inning during the second game of Thursday's doubleheader for Triple-A Nashville, walking off the field with a limp, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Given that he did not remain in the game, it's possible that the injury proves to be worse than just a bruise. Frelick had hit .308 with one home run and two steals in seven Triple-A games since returning from a thumb injury.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Returns from IL

Triple-A Nashville reinstated Frelick (thumb) from its 7-day injured list Wednesday. Frelich has been cleared to play for Nashville for the first time since April 18 after he recently wrapped up a productive three-game rehab stint in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, where he went 3-for-9 with two doubles and three walks. With Frelick having seemingly made a full recovery from left thumb surgery, he'll now turn his focus toward turning out a string of productive games at Nashville with the hope of earning his first big-league call-up at some point this summer.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Begins rehab in ACL

Frelick (thumb) began a minor-league rehab assignment Friday with the Brewers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate and has gone 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored in his first two games back in action. Frelick manned center field in both contests and now looks as though he'll need only a few more games in the lower levels of the minors before he's ready to return to action at Triple-A Nashville. Prior to spraining his left thumb and undergoing surgery in late April, Frelick appeared to be on the cusp of a promotion to the big leagues. If he can quickly regain form once he's back with Nashville, Frelick may not have to wait long for his first MLB call-up.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Cleared for baseball activities

Frelick (thumb) was recently cleared to resume light baseball activities, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Frelick was expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks after undergoing surgery April 25 to repair the UCL in his left thumb, and that recovery timeline remains roughly intact. According to Brewers farm director Tom Flanagan, Frelick will likely take part in rehab games with Milwaukee's Arizona Complex League affiliate in early-to-mid June once he's deemed ready for action, but the outfielder should eventually settle back into an everyday role at Triple-A Nashville. Frelick will still have a chance at making his MLB debut later in the summer if he can hit the ground running once he returns to action for Nashville.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Placed on minor-league IL

Frelick was placed on the 7-day injured list Friday at Triple-A Nashville with a left thumb sprain, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Frelick was examined by the Brewers' medical staff Thursday after jamming his left thumb in a game at Nashville on Tuesday. "We don't think he has to be out for a long time," manager Craig Counsell told reporters Friday evening. The 23-year-old top outfield prospect remains on track to make his MLB debut at some point this summer, with Garrett Mitchell's shoulder injury helping to clear Frelick's path.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Out at Triple-A with thumb injury

Frelick is out of the lineup at Triple-A Nashville for Wednesday's game against Jacksonville due to a jammed left thumb, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Though Frelick's injury isn't believed to be overly serious, the timing of the jammed thumb is unfortunate, as he likely would have been in line for a promotion to the majors if fully healthy with Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) likely to land on the injured list. Instead, Blake Perkins appears to be first in line for a call-up rather than Frelick. Before hurting his thumb Tuesday, Frelick compiled a .232/.317/.321 slash line across 63 plate appearances with Nashville.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Back to minors camp

The Brewers reassigned Frelick to minor-league camp Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. As the Brewers gear up for Opening Day on Thursday, Frelick was a part of the team's latest roster moves, returning to minors camp. The 22-year-old produced an impressive .385 average with a double, two RBI, three runs and three stolen bases over 26 at-bats in 10 games this spring. Operating as one of Milwaukee's top prospects, Frelick seems likely to get a shot at the major-league level at some point this summer, but he'll begin the 2023 campaign with Triple-A Durham.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Sizzling in WBC

Frelick is 7-for-18 (.389) with three doubles, four RBI and a stolen base through four WBC games with the Italian national team. Frelick hit leadoff in all four games Team Italy participated in during pool play, and his hot bat helped propel his team to the quarterfinals. Although Frelick is away from the Brewers for the time being, his WBC showing has boosted his stock to some degree, and it's not out of the question that he begins the 2023 campaign with the big club.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Invited to big-league camp

Frelick has received an invitation to major-league spring training with the Brewers, reports MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. On track to make his big-league debut at some point during the 2023 season, Frelick will get a chance to put his best foot forward under close watch of Milwaukee's lead decision makers. The 22-year-old top outfield prospect slashed .331/.403/.480 with 11 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 119 games last summer between High-A Wisconsin, Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville and is one of the organization's top prospects.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Still piling up hits

Frelick went 18-for-46 (.391) with three home runs, 11 RBI and two steals over his last 10 games with Triple-A Nashville. Frelick has played in 42 games since being promoted to Nashville, and according to team announcer Jeff Hem, he has recorded at least two hits in half of them. Power has not come up much when discussing Frelick, but he has added that to his repertoire of late, slugging .674 over the 10-game sample referenced above. At this point it seems unlikely Frelick will be called up this season, but at least he has put himself in position to compete for a big-league job next spring.
