  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Grabs first win since April

Gray (5-4) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings against the Cardinals. He struck out eight. Gray was excellent Thursday, tallying his highest strikeout total since May 12 to earn his first win in 15 starts. The veteran right-hander has now delivered three consecutive quality starts after allowing 11 earned runs in his previous two outings (11.2 innings). Overall, Gray has a 3.18 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 123:44 K:BB across 22 starts (124.1 innings) in an up-and-down campaign. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, currently scheduled for next week in Detroit.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Still winless since April

Gray did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings against the Royals. He struck out five without issuing a walk. Gray held up his end of the bargain, posting his fourth quality start in his last six turns, but once again his teammates let him down. Improbably, Gray has now gone 15 straight starts without a win, with his last coming all the way back on April 30. The right-hander expressed some frustration after his July 17 start, mostly with himself. He has a 3.22 ERA over 117.1 innings this season and his luck has to turn eventually.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Gets back on track

Gray allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Saturday. Gray had allowed a combined 11 runs over his last 11.2 innings entering this start, but he was back in solid form against a division rival. The right-hander didn't get enough run support while in the game, causing his winless streak to reach 14 starts. He's now at a 3.15 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 110:44 K:BB through 111.1 innings this season. Gray is projected for a favorable road start in Kansas City next week.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Falters again Monday

Gray dropped to 4-4 after allowing five runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Mariners. Gray didn't allow more than three runs in any of his first 17 outings, but he's given up 11 runs across his last 11.2 innings. The right-hander has also gone 13 starts without a win despite fairly solid pitching in that span. The positive news is that he continues to keep the ball down -- he hasn't allowed a homer in any of his last three outings and he's given up just three long balls all season. Gray has a 3.16 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 106:43 K:BB through 105.1 innings over 19 starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus the White Sox this weekend.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Allows season-high six runs

Gray (4-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out five. Gray got shelled for a season-high six runs in the second inning after allowing three consecutive singles to open the frame, followed by back-to-back walks. He actually went on to retire 10 consecutive batters from the third inning on, but the damage had already been done, and the right-hander took his third loss of the season. Gray has not won a start since April 30 against the Royals and has now issued three walks in each of his last two outings.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Blanks Baltimore in no-decision

Gray did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing just two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings against the Orioles. He struck out seven. Gray was excellent Sunday, holding the Orioles off the board for six innings. However, he'd fail to earn a win when Baltimore rallied for two runs in the eighth to hand Minnesota a 2-1 loss. After starting the year 4-0, Gray has failed to pick up a win in his last 11 starts despite pitching to a respectable 3.55 ERA in that span. Overall, Gray is 4-2 with a 2.50 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 96:36 K:BB through 17 starts (93.2 innings) this season. He's lined up for a rematch with the Orioles at home in his next outing.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Takes loss despite quality start

Gray (4-2) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against Atlanta. He struck out five. Gray notched his sixth quality start but took the loss, as Spencer Strider dominated Minnesota's offense. Gray hasn't allowed more than three runs in a game this season and sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 89:33 K:BB across 16 starts (87.2 innings). However, the veteran has cooled off a bit following a strong start, posting a 3.93 ERA over his past 10 outings. During that stretch, the right-hander hasn't won a game, totaling eight no-decisions and two losses. Regardless, Gray remains the ace of Minnesota's rotation and will look to get back in the win column during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled during a three-game weekend set in Baltimore.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Settles for no-decision

Gray allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters over five innings in a no-decision against Boston on Wednesday. Gray gave up a single run in each of the first, third and fifth frames and didn't come out for the sixth. He hasn't pitched into the sixth inning in any of his past three outings, though he's posted a a fine 3.86 ERA over that span. Gray has yet to give up more than three runs in a game through 15 starts this season, but he hasn't picked up a win since April 30. Since that date he's taken eight no-decisions and one loss while recording a 3.91 ERA. The right-hander has slowed down after a phenomenal beginning to the campaign, but he still ranks fourth among qualified pitchers with a 2.56 ERA overall.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Inefficient in no-decision

Gray did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks over four innings against the Tigers. He struck out three. Gray struggled with his command, matching a season high with four walks while needing 79 pitches to get through just three innings. After starting the year with a 1.39 ERA through his first eight starts, Gray's posted a 3.82 mark with a mediocre 1.57 WHIP over his last six outings. Overall, the 33-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.37 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 79:30 K:BB through 76 innings. Gray currently lines up for a home matchup with the Red Sox in his next outing.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Sharp in no-decision

Gray didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five. The right-hander made a relatively early exit, as 76 pitches represented his smallest workload of the season, but Gray still put himself in line for his fifth win of the year with a solid performance. Unfortunately for him, the Twins bullpen couldn't protect a 2-1 lead. Gray still has yet to give up more than three runs in any 2023 outing, and his 2.25 ERA ranks in the top five in the league among qualified pitchers. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Tigers.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Suffers first loss

Gray (4-1) took the loss against Cleveland on Saturday, allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out two batters over 6.2 innings. Gray recorded his fifth quality start of the campaign, but he surrendered a season-high 10 hits. The right-hander is still pitching well, though after notching four wins over his first six starts, he hasn't taken a victory in any of his subsequent six outings. Gray has also seen his strikeout numbers dip of late, recording just five punchouts over his past two starts covering 12.2 frames. There's no reason to panic -- Gray still hasn't given up more than three runs in any outing this season and holds a sterling 2.15 ERA -- but he's looking more mortal after beginning the campaign with a dominant stretch during which he allowed only three runs over his first 35 frames.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Settles for another no-decision

Gray allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters over six-plus innings in a no-decision against Houston on Monday. Gray sailed through six frames but was pulled after allowing the first two batters he faced in the seventh to reach base. A Jose Altuve grand slam off Brock Stewart allowed both those runners to score and wiped out Minnesota's lead, causing Gray to take his fifth consecutive no-decision. The right-hander didn't have his best stuff Monday -- the three punchouts were his fewest since his first start of the campaign, and he notched only seven swinging strikes -- but he did manage to record his first quality start of May. Gray is still sporting an excellent 1.94 ERA, but he's been less dominant of late, giving up 10 earned runs over his past 25.1 innings.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Fourth straight no-decision Tuesday

Gray allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings during Tuesday's loss to the Giants. He did not factor into the decision. Gray blanked the Giants through the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He opened up the frame by giving up a double and walking two batters to load the bases before handing the ball over to Jovani Moran. Moran would allow two of the inherited runners to score, both on walks. Gray was still in line for the win until the bullpen gave away the lead for good in the seventh. The 33-year-old still has yet to allow more than three runs in a start so far this season but remains winless in May after going 4-0 last month. He's at a 1.82 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 66:21 K:BB over 54.1 innings and tentatively lines up for a start to begin next week in Houston.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Stumbles Wednesday

Gray did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over four innings against the Dodgers. He struck out four. It certainly could've been worse for Gray, as he allowed just two runs despite allowing eight batters to reach safely. Still, he could only make it through four innings, as he was forced to spend 84 pitches. It's only the second time this season Gray has allowed more than one run in a start. The 33-year-old right-hander is 4-0 with a league-leading 1.64 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB through nine starts this year.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Strikes out nine in no-decision

Gray allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Friday. Gray wasn't able to pitch very deep into the game, throwing 57 of 94 pitches for strikes. It was still a solid bounce-back effort after he allowed multiple runs for the first time all season in his start versus Cleveland last Saturday. The right-hander now has a 1.39 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 56:16 K:BB through 45.1 innings over eight starts this season. He's projected for a tough road start versus the Dodgers next week.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: First non-stellar start

Gray did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out six in Minnesota's loss. It was Gray's worst outing of the season as he gave up three runs in the fourth inning after giving up just three runs over his first six starts. His ERA increased to 1.35, which shows how dominant he's been so far. Gray's next start is expected to be Friday at home against the Cubs.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Continues excellence in win

Gray improved to 4-0 after allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven in an 8-4 win over the Royals on Sunday. Gray capped off April with another masterful performance. He tossed five shutout innings before the Royals finally got a run across in the sixth. The 33-year-old has now thrown at least five innings and allowed one run or fewer in each of his six starts this season, and his 0.77 ERA currently leads Major League Baseball among all pitchers with at least 25 innings thrown. Gray has been a fantasy star over the first month of the year and will look to keep things rolling in a divisional matchup against the Guardians next weekend.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Dominates Yankees in victory

Gray (3-0) allowed three hits and two walks over seven shutout frames Monday, striking out eight and earning a win against the Yankees. Gray rolled through the Yankees with ease Monday. He coughed up just one extra-base hit and never faced much of a threat while snagging his third win. His season-high 18 whiffs helped improve his K:BB to 34:11 across 29 frames. Gray has allowed fewer than two runs in each of his first five starts, resulting in an outstanding 0.64 ERA. He'll look to continue the hot streak in his next outing, which is projected to be at home against the Royals.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Settles for no-decision Tuesday

Gray allowed one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings Tuesday against the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision. Gray was tested early. He gave up consecutive doubles to begin the game but was able to strand two runners in scoring position and limit the damage. He worked his way out of some more trouble in the second after striking out Justin Turner with the bases loaded. He needed 54 pitches to get through the first two frames but settled in thereafter and coasted through the next three innings without much issue. After Tuesday's outing, Gray now sits third in Major League Baseball with a 0.82 ERA to go with a 1.18 WHIP and a 26:9 K:BB over 22 innings. He's projected to be in a favorable spot at home against the Nationals to end the week.

  • Twins' Sonny Gray: Stays hot, earns second win

Gray (2-0) earned the win Wednesday against the White Sox, allowing zero runs off three hits over five innings while walking two batters and striking out five. Chalk up another impressive start for the 33-year-old veteran, who has now allowed just one earned run through his first 17 innings on the mound and boasts a 19:7 K:BB ratio. While Wednesday's start certainly wasn't as impressive as his 13-strikeout performance Friday against Houston, Gray has yet to show signs of slowing down through three starts.
